Today Emmett Joel is 8 weeks old, it is hard to believe we have a little two month old already. When people ask how old our son is I sometimes catch myself trying to respond "two weeks". Time flies! Emmett has been doing a little better with his allergies and is growing like a weed. He currently wears mostly 3 month old clothes with some exceptions because he is more lengthy than chunky. We are working on switching around his days and nights; it is a lot more work than I anticipated. It takes a lot of stimulation during the day to keep him awake. Which is also a challenge when he has the attention span of a goldfish. Emmett absolutely loves books and being read to. He has had some colic and digestion discomfort. This is particularly fun when he screams for hours on end in the middle of the night. Andrew and I have begun mastering the "taking turns" with baby at night.
Our biggest challenge this week was transitioning Emmett to a bottle temporarily during my surgery. It didn't go over well at first, but now transitioning back have proved to be just as difficult. Andrew said he feels like a mom and is exhausted. Poor Andrew.
Emmett had a great first Christmas and was absolutely spoiled. (Thank you!) We are so blessed to be surrounded by such loving friends and family.
Here are his professional pictures taken at 2 weeks:
Emmett has grown so much since then! Here are a few more recent pics:
Emmett is looking forward to meeting his friends and family this week in California!!!

5 Weeks Old
Today Emmett is five weeks and one day old. He is a very good baby and hardly fusses. He is officially out of his premie clothes and has almost filled out his newborn sizes too! People aren't kidding when they say "they grow so fast". Just today, I had to retire three NB outfits before I found one that fit. Why is him growing so bittersweet?! We have a mirror in his room and everyday I notice how much bigger he has gotten and how much his hair has grown since the weeks and days before. We put him on the scale a few days ago and estimate that he is around 7.5 lbs.
Emmett is still having trouble with his sensitive skin. He gets a rash if he touches clothing or any materials that haven't been washed in his special laundry detergent. Luckily babies heal very quickly, and we apply allergy cream daily to keep him as comfortable as possible. Its frustrating as a mom that when I have him to myself (mostly) during the week, his rashes are completely gone. Then we get visitors who don't take my requests (such as keeping one of his burp cloths or blankets between his skin and their clothes) seriously. Almost immediately his face starts turning red and bumps appear; they go back home, and I am the one who deals with a fussy and miserable baby. Poor guy! I really hope he grows out of this soon.
EJC eats all the time! He eats every 2-3 hours and lately has been going through a growth spurt, which has meant 1 hour and 15 minute feedings! We had some concerns about him eating in the hospital, but with perseverance, breast feeding has come to be a great thing. I highly recommend it to all moms, it saves astronomical amounts of money and is better for baby. With the interaction, he tells your body which vitamins and antibodies his little body needs which allows for dynamic nutrient consumption.
In addition to eating like a champ, Emmett passes impressive amounts of gas and gives his dad a run for his money! It's funny how something so grotesque can be so cute when they're little... I have a feeling it won't be cute for very long though!
We are planning on using cloth diapers, but he is still too small for them. We have been using premie disposables, but are planning on switching to cloth when we go back to school in January. This is also when Emmett will try his first bottle.
Emmett currently has brown wavy hair and every facial feature screams "Clayton". His eyes are currently steel grey, but I'm hoping they turn green like mine or blue like my dads. Or maybe he will get my temperament (Andrew hopes!) From day one, Emmett has looked just like his daddy. We didn't realize how similar the resemblance was until we dug through Andrew's baby pictures this week:

Here are a few of our favorite recent pictures of baby.
We had his pictures taken professionally, and are picking them up tomorrow so stay posted!
{Please keep our cousins and dear friends, Trent and Lisa in your thoughts and prayers. They are suffering the loss of their babygirl, Grace. We just pray that they feel God's warm love and comfort in this hard time and that as time progresses HIS grace covers the searing pain of loss}

All About Emmett
Dear Friends,
We decided to start up a new blog for family and friends to watch Emmett grow up. Most of our family and loved ones live across the country, and this way everyone can see and enjoy him without us blowing up Facebook!
Also, we made Emmett an email address. Throughout his life mommy and daddy want to write to him, send him pictures, make him videos and mark milestones. We would love if you wanted to also write to him, send him pictures of your family or just send advice or Bible verses. We will treat this somewhat as a scrapbook or time capsule and will give him access with the password when he gets older. (Highschool graduation, 16th or 18th birthday... we haven't decided yet)
His e-mail address is:
emmettjoel@hotmail.com
We hope all is well with you and your family! Enjoy the holidays and we hope you enjoy Emmetts pictures, updates, and watching him grow.
Love Dearly,
Caitlin & Andrew Clayton
